Zanaflex (Tizanidine) is a short-acting muscle relaxer that is used to treat muscle spasms such as muscle tightness, pain, or stiffness caused by certain conditions such as sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and muscle spasticity. Tizanidine belongs to the class of medications called skeletal muscle relaxants. This medication works by helping to relax the muscles by blocking pain sensations that are sent to the brain. It also reduces the activity of nerves in the spinal cord that control muscles which help reduce muscle spasms.
