Xylocaine (Lidocaine HCl topical solution) is a prescription medication used to numb an area of your body to reduce pain and discomfort during surgical procedures. Invasive surgical procedures such as, needle punctures, or the insertion of a tube into the urinary tract can cause pain. Xylocaine gel may also be used to stop itching and pain from skin irritations. Xylocaine may also be used to relieve pain caused by swelling of the urinary tract. The active ingredient in Xylocaine is Lidocaine HCl topical solution. Lidocaine HCl belongs to a class of drugs called local anesthetics. It works by causing temporary numbness or loss of feeling in the skin and mucous membranes.
