Xalatan (Latanoprost) belongs to a class of medications called prostaglandin analogs. Xalatan reduces pressure in the eye by increasing the amount of fluid that drains from the eye. It is used to treat people with open-angle glaucoma and intraocular hypertension (increased pressure in the eye).

Manufacturer Information

We currently have the brand from Canada manufactured by Pfizer and the generic Latanoprost manufactured by Sandoz. It may come from other suppliers. Xalatan is an eye drop available in 0.005 %/2.5 ml.

Store unopened bottles of Xalatan in a refrigerator at 2° to 8° C (36° to 46°F). Once you open the bottle for use, it may be stored at room temperature in a cool place for up to 25°C (77°F) for 6 weeks. You do not need to keep it refrigerated.

Stop using Latanoprost ophthalmic and call your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects:

• Chest pain;
• Difficulty breathing;
• Eye pain, redness, swelling, or discomfort;
• Increased sensitivity to light;
• Oozing or discharge from your eye;
• Wheezing

Less serious side effects:

• Blurred vision;
• Cold or flu symptoms;
• Dry or watery eyes;
• Feeling like something is in your eye;
• Headache, dizziness;
• Mild eye discomfort

Do not use Xalatan if you are allergic to Latanoprost. Do not use Xalatan while wearing contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after using Xalatan before putting your contact lenses in. It is unknown whether Xalatan will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. It is not known whether latanoprost passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use Xalatan without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. There may be an interaction between Latanoprost and other eye drops, or thimerosal.
