Voquezna (Vonoprazan) is a prescription medication used to treat erosive esophagitis, a condition that damages the lining of the esophagus, the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. Chronic irritation, usually from stomach acids flowing back into the esophagus, is the primary cause of erosive esophagitis. Voquezna also relieves heartburn associated with non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Non-erosive GERD is a condition that causes heartburn and other symptoms without damaging the esophagus. Voquezna is used in combination with antibiotics to treat H.pylori infections. H.pylori infection is a bacterial infection that affects the stomach and duodenum. The active ingredient in Voquezna is Vonoprazan. Vonoprazan belongs to a class of medications called potassium-competitive acid blockers (PCABs). It works by blocking potassium from binding to proton pumps in the stomach. Proton pumps produce stomach acid and blocking them reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
