Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is used to treat certain infections that are caused by bacteria. Doxycycline belongs to the class of medications known as tetracyclines. This medication may be used in combination with other medications to treat acne or certain amoeba infections. It may also be used to prevent certain types of malaria in travelers who will be visiting malaria-infected areas for less than 4 months. Vibramycin is a tetracycline antibiotic. Doxycycline Hyclate works by slowing the growth of bacteria. By slowing the bacteria’s growth allows the body’s immune system to destroy the bacteria.

We currently have the brand from Canada manufactured by Pfizer. The generic Doxycycline Hyclate comes from UK and Canada and is manufactured by a different manufacturer. Vibramycin is available in the strength of 100mg capsules.

The common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and upset stomach.

The serious side effects may include:
• Change in the amount of urine;
• Sensitivity to the sun (sunburn);
• Painful/difficulty swallowing

You should not take Vibramycin if you are allergic to doxycycline or if you have any other allergies. It may harm an unborn baby. This medication passes into breast milk but it is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. There may be an interaction between Vibramycin and other medications such as aripiprazole, birth control pills, carbamazepine, cholestyramine, methotrexate, penicillins, quinapril, warfarin, etc.
