Verelan (Verapamil) belongs to the class of medications known as calcium channel blockers. Verapamil is used for the treatment of high blood pressure. This mediation works by controlling blood pressure and reduces the number of angina attacks by relaxing blood vessels. By lowering your high blood pressure, you can help prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. It may also lower your heart rate. Verelan is taken once daily with or without food.

You should not take Verelan if you are allergic to Verapamil or if you have any other allergies. This medication may make you dizzy. Drinking alcohol or smoking marijuana can make you dizzier. You should limit alcoholic beverages. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. Verapamil passes into breast milk. There may be a drug interaction between Verapamil and other medications such as Aliskiren, Clonidine, Disophyramide, Dofetilide, Dolasteron, Fingolimod and Lithium.
