Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is an antiviral medication that is used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses that affect the skin known as shingles (herpes zoster). t's used to manage outbreaks of both of the herpes simplex viruses, HSV-1 (cold sores, also known as herpes labialis) and HSV-2 (genital herpes, also known as herpes simplex). It may also be used to treat chickenpox in children who are over two years old. Valacyclovir works by affecting the way the virus reproduces and it stops the virus from multiplying and spreading to nearby healthy cells. Valtrex does not cure shingles, cold sores or genital herpes but it helps the sores to heal fast and it also relieves pain and discomfort. It also reduces the risk of spreading of the infection to others. Other medications for viral infections are: Zovirax, Valcyte
Administration of oral acyclovir suppressive therapy after neonatal herpes simplex virus disease limited to the skin, eyes and mouth: results of a phase I/II trial - 1996, D Kimberlin, D Powell, W Gruber, P Diaz, found that "The safety profile of atorvastatin was consistent with that of all statins tested and was similar to that seen in all compounds of this class.”
