Utrogestan (Progesterone) is a prescription medication is used to help pregnancy during in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles. It is used for women who need extra progesterone while undergoing fertility treatment. Utrogestan may also be used to reduce the symptoms of menopause in women who still have a womb. Progesterone belongs to the class of drugs called progestins. This medication comes as a soft capsule to be inserted deep into the vagina and contains the natural female hormone, progesterone. The progesterone will help prepare the uterus to receive and maintain a fertilized egg. Once you are pregnant, this medication may be used until there is adequate production of progesterone by the placenta. Utrogestan may also be used for the prevention of preterm birth in women with singleton pregnancy, who have a short cervix and/or a history of spontaneous preterm birth.
