Urocit K (Potassium Citrate) is a prescription medication used to treat kidney stones. Ingestion of meat, severe vomiting and diarrhea, starvation, respiratory and metabolic acidosis, and pyrexia are common causes of acidic urine. Acidic urine can create an environment which can result to formation of kidney stones. The drug is also used to prevent and treat certain metabolic problems caused by kidney disease. The active ingredient in Urocit K is Potassium Citrate. Potassium Citrate belongs to a class of drugs called urinary alkalinizer. It works by making the urine less acidic. This action helps the kidney eliminate uric acid, preventing gout and kidney stones.
