Skelaxin (Metaxalone) is a prescription medication used to treat muscle spasms and pain. The drug is often used along with rest and physical therapy. Muscle spasms occur when the muscle involuntarily and forcibly contracts and can’t relax. Nerve disorders and thyroid problems may increase the risk of muscle spasms. The active ingredient in Skelaxin is Metaxalone. Metaxalone belongs to a class of drugs called skeletal muscle relaxants. It works by blocking nerve impulses or pain sensations in the brain.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while taking Skelaxin. The most common side effects of Skelaxin may include the following:
• Dizziness;
• Feeling irritable;
• Headache;
• Vomiting
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Light-headedness;
• Pale or yellow skin;
• Weak or shallow breathing
These are not all of the side effects of Skelaxin. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not take Skelaxin if you are allergic to Metaxalone or any ingredient in Skelaxin. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant;
• Have anemia;
• Have severe kidney disease;
• Have severe liver disease
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Skelaxin and lopinavir, tucatinib, amoxapine, clobazam, clozapine, flurazepam, etc. avoid sleeping pills, narcotic pain medicines, muscle relaxants, cough medicine, or antidepressants with Skelaxin. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is not known if this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Metaxalone passes into breast milk and if it may affect a nursing infant. Take Skelaxin precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take the drug with or without food. Do not drink alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol may increase the side effects of Skelaxin. This drug may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert. Skelaxin is often used as part of a comprehensive treatment program that may include rest, physical therapy, and other pain relief methods. Store Skelaxin at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
