Silvadene (Silver Sulfadiazene) is used to help prevent and treat wound infections in patients with serious burns. Silvadene is used for serious infection on areas of the skin with second or third degree burns. Silver Sulfadiazene belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfa antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria that may infect an open wound; this can decrease the risk of bacteria spreading to surrounding skin, or blood where it can cause a serious infection.
