Septra (Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim) is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial infections. Bacterial infections can occur in any part of the body. Bacteria is often transmitted to humans through air, water, food, or living vectors. Septra is used to treat ear infections, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, traveler’s diarrhea, pneumocystis-type pneumonia, and shigellosis. Septra is a tablet. Take the drug by mouth with a full glass of water. If you experience stomach upset, take the drug with food or milk. Drink plenty of fluids when using Septra. Continue this medication for the full prescribed period, even if your symptoms disappear. Stopping the drug too early may cause a return of the infection. Septra can increase your sensitivity to the sun. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen when you are outdoors. Store at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
