Sandomigran (Pizotifen) is a prescription medication used to prevent migraine headaches. Migraine headaches are headaches with throbbing pain. The headache may last at least four hours or even days. The active ingredient in Sandomigran is Pizotifen. Pizotifen belongs to a class of drugs called anti-migraines. It works by blocking the action of certain chemicals like histamine, serotonin, and tryptamine in the blood. Sandomigran can reduce the number and severity of migraine headaches and make other attacks less severe. This drug is for the prevention of migraine attacks. It does not relieve a migraine attack once it has started.

We currently offer the brand Sandomigran DS from Canada manufactured by Paladin in the strength of 1 mg tablets. The generic Pizotifen comes from the United Kingdom by a different manufacturer in the strength of 0.5 mg and 1.5 mg tablets.
Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while taking Sandomigran. The most common side effects of Sandomigran may include the following:
• Dizziness;
• Dry mouth;
• Fatigue;
• Increased appetite;
• Nausea;
• Tingling sensation;
• Unexplained weight gain;
• Vision changes
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Breathing difficulties;
• Confusion;
• Hallucinations;
• Seizures;
• Swelling of throat or mouth
These are not all of the side effects of Sandomigran. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not take Sandomigran if you are allergic to Pizotifen or any ingredient in Sandomigran. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant;
• Have diabetes;
• Have difficulty passing water;
• Have epilepsy;
• Have glaucoma;
• Have heart disease;
• Have intolerance to certain sugars;
• Have kidney problems;
• Have liver problems
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Sandomigran and other medicines, including tranquilizers, anti-histamines, alpha-blockers, beta-blockers, drugs used to treat a cold, etc. Avoid selegiline, furazolidone, butalbital, glucagon, ketotifen, or tramadol with Sandomigran. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is not known if the drug with harm a fetus. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Pizotifen passes into breast milk. Take Sandomigran precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not wait for a migraine before taking this medicine. Your doctor may gradually reduce your dose after having success with the medication to see if you still need it. If your headaches return after stopping the medication, your doctor may prescribe Pizotifen again. Do not stop taking this drug without informing your doctor. You may experience withdrawal symptoms if you stop the drug suddenly. You may feel drowsy while taking this medicine. Do not drive or operate machinery if you get drowsy while taking Sandomigran. Store this medication at room temperature, away from light and moisture.
