Rythmol (Propafenone) belongs to a class of drugs called Class IC anti-arrhythmic. This medication is used to treat certain types of serious irregular heartbeats, such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. It is also used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. Rythmol works by blocking the activity of certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. Treating this condition can lower the risk for blood clots and this can reduce the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

Common side effects of Rythmol may include severe dizziness; headaches; metallic/salty tastes in your mouth; nausea; vomiting; constipation; anxiety; tiredness; fast or slow heartbeat. If any of these effects worsen or persist, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Call your doctor or pharmacist immediately if you notice severe side effects such as:
• Signs of infection- high fever, severe chills, weakness, persistent sore throat;
• Signs of liver problems;
• Worsening symptoms of heart failure

You should also inform your doctor if you have a pacemaker or defibrillator. These devises may need to be re-programmed while you are taking Rythmol. This medication can affect sperm production, which can negatively impact male fertility. A risk of developing QT Prolongation exists, which is a condition that affects the heart rhythm. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Limit alcoholic beverages. Avoid the use of grapefruit products, as it may interact with Propafenone and lead to unwanted side effects. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal products and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Propafenone and other medications.
