Rofact (Rifampin) is used to treat and prevent tuberculosis (TB). Rifampin is an antibiotic. It prevents the spread of bacteria in your body. This medication prevents you from spreading these bacteria to other people but it does not treat an infection caused by the bacteria. Rifampin may also be used to eliminate bacteria from your nose or throat that may cause meningitis or other infections.

Side effects include:
• Bruising or bleeding easily;
• Feeling tired;
• Flu symptoms, fever, chills, body aches, weakness;
• Pain in the stomach, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools;
• Swelling and joint pain;
• Urinating – less than usual or not at all
Do not take rifampin if you are allergic to rifampin or to any rifamycin. Before you start taking the medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the prescription, OTC and herbal medications you are currently taking. There may be an interaction between Rofact and other medications such as barbiturates, beta-blockers, blood thinners, estrogens, heart medicines, HIV medicines, liver bacterial vaccines, etc.
