Robitussin is an over-the-counter medication used to reduce chest congestion caused by the common cold, infections, or allergies. Chest congestion occurs when mucus builds up in the lungs and lower breathing tubes, making breathing difficult. Robitussin belongs to a class of drugs called expectorants. It works by loosening congestion in your chest and throat, making coughing out through your mouth easier.
