Procardia (Nifedipine) is a prescription medication used to treat angina. Angina is a type of chest pain that reduces blood flow to the heart and is often a symptom of coronary artery disease. The active ingredient in Procardia is Nifedipine. Nifedipine belongs to a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Procardia. The most common side effects of Procardia may include the following:
• Constipation;
• Dizziness;
• Flushing;
• Headache;
• Nausea
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Pounding heartbeats;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Worsening chest pain
These are not all of the side effects of Procardia. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not use Procardia if you are allergic to Nifedipine or any ingredient in Procardia. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant;
• Have a history of heart attack;
• Have aortic stenosis;
• Have congestive heart failure;
• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver disease;
• Have very low blood pressure
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Procardia and other medicines, like metoprolol, aspirin, atorvastatin, prednisone, tramadol, metformin, etc. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if Procardia can harm your fetus. This drug should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Nifedipine passes into breast milk, and it may harm your nursing infant. Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Procardia is a tablet. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not break, crush, or chew them. You can take this drug with or without food as directed by your doctor. Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication. Grapefruit can increase the side effects of this drug. Take this drug regularly to get the most benefit from it. Procardia may make you dizzy. Do not drive or use machinery until you can do it safely. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position to reduce your risk of dizziness. If you need surgery, tell your surgeon ahead of time that you are taking Procardia. You may need to stop taking the medicine at least 36 hours before surgery. Part of the tablet shell may appear in your stool. This does not make the medicine less effective. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
