Principen (Ampicillin) is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial infections. Bacterial infections can affect the skin, lungs, brain, blood, and other parts of the body. Without prompt treatment, bacterial infections can trigger sepsis, leading to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. The active ingredient in Principen is Ampicillin. Ampicillin belongs to a class of drugs called penicillin-type antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Principen will only work for bacterial. It does not treat viral infections like the flu or the common cold. Taking antibiotics when not needed can increase your risk of developing antibiotic-resistant infections in the future.
