Pelacarsen (Pelacarsen) is a prescription medication used to reduce elevated LP(a) levels. The drug may also be used for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular diseases are heart and blood vessel problems. The symptoms of these diseases include chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, and fatigue. Pelacarsen belongs to a class of drugs called liver-targeted antisense oligonucleotide. It works by lowering Lp(a) levels. Reducing lipoprotein levels reduces your risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Pelacarsen. The most common side effects of Pelacarsen may include the following:
• Mild swelling at the injection site;
• Temporary redness at the injection site;
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, including breathing difficulties, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, or throat
These are not all of the side effects of Pelacarsen. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not receive Pelacarsen if you are allergic to Pelacarsen or any ingredient in Pelacarsen. Before you start receiving this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant;
• Have unexplained bruising or bleeding
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Pelacarsen and other medicines. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is not known if Pelacarsen will harm your unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown whether Pelacarsen passes into breast milk or if it may affect a nursing infant. Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Pelacarsen is an injection. Your doctor will administer this drug subcutaneously to you. Avoid alcohol when using Pelacarsen. Alcohol can increase the side effects. Store Pelacarsen injection below room temperature. Do not freeze. Keep Pelacarsen and all medicines out of the reach of children.
