Pariet (Rabeprazole) belongs to the class of medications known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Rabeprazole works by slowing or preventing the production of acid in the stomach. This medication relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing and persistent cough. This medication is used to treat stomach and esophagus problems such as acid reflux and ulcers. It may also be combined with antibiotics to treat ulcers caused by bacterium Helicobacter pylori. Pariet is also used for the long term treatment of conditions associated with constant production of excess acid in the stomach including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
