Ovestin (Estriol) is a prescription medication that is used to relief symptoms that occur after menopause in women with at least 12 months after their last period. Estriol is a female hormone. This medication helps to reduce symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness which is caused by the body making less estrogen. The shortage of Oestrogens may cause the vaginal wall to become thin and dry which may cause infections & vaginal itching and sexual intercourse can become painful. The usual dosage of Ovestin is one application once a day for the first few weeks or until symptoms improves. After that the dose is slowly reduced to one application twice a week.
