Omacor (Omega 3 acid ethyl esters) is a prescription medication used along with a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet, to lower very high triglycerides in the blood. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are found in oil from certain types of fish, vegetables, and other plant sources. Omacor belongs to the group of drugs known as reducers of cholesterol and triglycerides. It works by lowering the body's production of triglycerides. High levels of triglycerides can lead to coronary artery disease, heart disease, and stroke.

Seek emergency medical attention if you have any signs of an allergic reaction. The less serious side effects of Omacor includes back pain, belching, mild skin rash, unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth, and upset stomach.
Stop using Omacor and call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects of Omacor such as:
• Body aches, fever, chills, flu-like symptoms;
• Chest pain;
• Uneven heartbeats

Avoid eating foods that are high in fat or cholesterol. Omacor will not work well in lowering your triglycerides if you do not follow the diet plan recommended by your doctor. There may be a drug interaction between Omacor and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Omacor should not be taken by anyone under 18 years of age.
