Olumiant (Baricitinib) is a prescription medication used to treat adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It helps to decrease pain, tenderness and swelling in the joints. Baricitinib belongs to the class of medications known as Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors. This medication is given to patients who have not responded well or could not tolerate other RA medications. Baricitinib is an immunosuppressant that works by blocking the action of enzymes known as Janus kinases. Olumiant is usually taken once daily and it should be taken daily to get the most benefit from it.

The common side effects may include cold sores, nausea, shingles and upper respiratory tract infections such as the common cold, sinus infections.
Inform your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects including:

• Loss of appetite;
• Severe dizziness;
• Severe nausea or vomiting;
• Severe stomach or abdominal pain;
• Signs of anemia;
• Signs of liver disease
