Zyprexa Zydis (Olanzapine OTD) is a prescription medication used to treat mood disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, and agitation associated with these disorders. Schizophrenia can cause symptoms such as hallucinations (e.g., hearing, seeing, or sensing things that are not there), delusions, unusual suspiciousness, and emotional withdrawal. People with this condition may also feel depressed, anxious, or tense. The active ingredient in Zyprexa Zydis is Olanzapine OTD. Olanzapine belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It works by restoring the balance of dopamine and serotonin in the brain, substances that regulate mood, behaviors, and thoughts. Treating mood disorders helps people with these conditions to be positive about themselves, feel less agitated, and take a more active part in everyday life.

Get medical help immediately if you have any signs of an allergic reaction while taking Zyprexa Zydis. The most common side effects of Zyprexa Zydis may include:
• Constipation;
• Drowsiness;
• Dry mouth;
• Fatigue;
• Weakness;
• Unintended weight gain

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Change in menstrual period for women;
• Breast enlargement or discharge among men;
• Painful or difficult urination;
• Seizure;
• Signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (including confusion, reduced consciousness, high fever, or muscle stiffness);
• Sudden drop in blood pressure;
• Suicidal or self-harm

Before taking Olanzapine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Zyprexa Zydis is a tablet and should be taken orally with a cup of water, with or without food. Take your medication as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. The usual starting dose of olanzapine tablets for adults with schizophrenia is 5 mg to 10 mg once daily at the same time each day. Do not use more than your prescribed dosage. It would be best to know that your dosage depends on the severity of your conditions and response to treatment. To reduce the risks of side effects of Olanzapine, your doctor may commence you on a low dose and increase your dose gradually. Do not use other medication with Olanzapine without consulting your doctor. Monitor your blood sugar regularly in case you have diabetes. Olanzapine may make you feel dizzy or cause a sudden drop in your blood pressure. Get up from a sitting position slowly, and do not engage in strenuous activities until you are sure you can do them. Inform your doctor if you experience severe side effects such as leg stiffness, hyperglycemia, and rapid drop in your blood pressure. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor, as this may worsen your condition.

Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have enlarged prostate or prostate cancer;
• Have kidney or liver problems;
• Have had episodes of depression or seizures;
• Have high levels of cholesterol or triglycerides in your blood;
• Have problems with your heartbeat

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeeding a baby. Zyprexa Zydis can harm the unborn baby. Babies born to mothers who have used Olanzapine OTD during the third trimester may develop symptoms such as muscle stiffness or shakiness, drowsiness, feeding difficulties, or excessive crying. Tell the doctor immediately if you notice any of these symptoms in your newborn, especially during their first month. Olanzapine passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on the baby. Inform your doctor before breastfeeding your baby. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Olanzapine and other medications such as metoclopramide, thioridazine, amisulpride, cisapride, dronedarone, and fezolinetant.

The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
