Normacol is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve constipation and manage bowel movements. Constipation often results from not eating enough fiber or not drinking enough fluid. This drug is also used to reduce the risk of intestine damage in people who have swallowed something sharp. Normacol is also used in people with rectal or anal surgery and those needing a high-fiber diet. People with colostomies or ileostomies also use this drug. Normacol is a fibre supplement. The active ingredient in Normacol is Sterculia. Sterculia is a natural dietary fiber from the karaya tree. It belongs to a class of medicines called laxatives. Sterculia works by increasing the bulk of your stools, encouraging bowel movement through your digestive system.
