Nasonex nasal spray (Mometasone) is used to treat and prevent seasonal or perennial allergies. Mometasone is a steroid and belongs to a family of medications called corticosteroids. It prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. This medication can also be used to treat nasal polyps in adults over 18 years old. Mometasone works by reducing swelling and inflammation in the nasal passages.

The brand Nasonex comes from Turkey manufactured by Schering/MSD. The generic comes from Canada and India (also called Metaspray). This medication is available in the strength of 50mcg/100 dose and 50mcg/140 dose.

Common side effects include:

• Abdominal or stomach pain and cramping during menstrual periods;
• Chills, cold, flu-like symptoms;
• Cough or hoarseness;
• Fever;
• Headache;
• Muscle or bone pain;
• Stuffy or runny nose

You should not use Nasonex if you are allergic to Mometasone or any of the ingredients in this medication. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical condition and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. There may be an interaction between other corticosteroid medications and other nasal sprays. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is unknown whether Nasonex passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
