Nalcrom (Cromolyn sodium) is a prescription medication used to prevent food allergies. Food allergies occur when the body has too many mast cells and releases too many histamines, leading to symptoms like stomach pain, diarrhea, itching, and rash. The drug also reduces the severity of allergic symptoms after eating a particular food. You can only use Nalcrom if you have had a test to prove you are allergic to certain foods. The active ingredient in Nalcrom is Cromolyn sodium. Cromolyn sodium belongs to a class of drugs called mast cell stabilizers. It works by preventing the release the substances causing inflammation in the stomach and intestines.
