Mucodyne (Carbocisteine) is a prescription medication used to relieve chest congestion caused by thick and sticky mucus in the airways associated with respiratory disorders like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD is a respiratory disorder that constricts the airways and causes breathing difficulties. Frequent coughing or wheezing, shortness of breath, and excess phlegm are symptoms of COPD. Mucodyne is also used to treat the symptoms of cystic fibrosis. The active ingredient in Mucodyne is Carbocisteine. Carbocisteine belongs to a class of drugs called mucolytic agents. It works by making phlegm less thick and sticky and easier to cough up. The drug also makes it difficult for bacteria to cause chest infections.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while taking Mucodyne. The most common side effects of Mucodyne may include the following:
• Diarrhea;
• Dry mouth;
• Headache;
• Stomach upset;
• Vomiting
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Black stools:
• Bloody vomit;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, including skin rash or blisters, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Skin rash or blisters

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Mucodyne should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Carbocisteine passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Take Mucodyne precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Carbocisteine works best when taken regularly. Try to take your doses at the same times each day to help you remember. You can take this drug with or without food. Exercise can improve breathing in people with respiratory diseases. Try to increase your activity level over time if you are able. Keep this drug and all medicines out of the sight and reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat and light.
