Midamor (Amiloride) is used with other diuretics to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, extra fluid in the body. It is also used to prevent low blood potassium levels in people with high blood pressure or congestive heart failure caused by other diuretics. Midamor belongs to a class of drugs called diuretics. Amiloride helps prevent your body from losing too much potassium. It also reduces the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine which helps lower the blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure can help prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

The common side effects of Midamor may include diarrhea, dizziness, gas, headaches, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain, and vomiting.

Stop taking Midamor and call your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects:
• Decreased urination, or increased thirst;
• High potassium;
• Hot and dry skin, heavy sweating;
• Jaundice;
• Low levels of sodium in the body;
• Loss of consciousness, confusion;
• Tremors

Do not take Midamor if you are allergic to Amiloride or if you take potassium supplements or another potassium-sparing diuretic or if you have high potassium levels, problems with your kidneys. Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you are on a low-salt diet or if you are severely ill or if you have:
• Breathing problems;
• Cirrhosis;
• Diabetes;
• Heart disease;
• Liver disease

Drinking alcohol with this medication can cause side effects. Avoid becoming overheated and dehydrated in hot weather or during exercise. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication to prevent dehydration. Do not use salt substitutes or low-sodium milk products that contain potassium. Avoid a diet high in salt. Too much salt will cause your body to retain water and can make this medication less effective. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Amiloride and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
