Micronor (Norethindrone 0.35mg)

Micronor (Norethindrone) is a prescription medication used to prevent pregnancy. The drug is also used to treat menstrual disorders, endometriosis, and abnormal vaginal bleeding caused by hormonal imbalances. The active ingredient in Micronor is Norethindrone. Norethindrone belongs to a class of medications called progestins. It works by preventing eggs from fully developing and causing the thickening of the cervical mucus to prevent pregnancy. Norethindrone is a progestin-only contraceptive called minipill. Micronor is often used by women who cannot take estrogen.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Micronor. The most common side effects of Micronor may include the following:
• Acne;
• Breast pain or tenderness;
• Dizziness;
• Fatigue;
• Hair loss;
• Irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting;
• Mild headache;
• Nausea;
• Skin rash;
• Vaginal itch or discharge;
• Vomiting;
• Weight gain

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Appetite loss;
• Breast lump;
• Dark urine;
• Increased thirst;
• Increased urination;
• Jaundice;
• Missed menstrual periods;
• Pelvic pain;
• Rapid weight gain;
• Unusual vaginal bleeding

These are not all of the side effects of Micronor. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.

You should not take Micronor if you are allergic to Norethindrone or any ingredient in Micronor. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have a history of blood clots;
• Have benign or malignant liver tumors;
• Have breast cancer;
• Have depression;
• Have diabetes;
• Have heart disease;
• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver disease;
• Have migraine headaches

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Micronor and seizure medications, retinoic acid medications, HIV protease inhibitors, diabetes medications, azole antifungals, etc. Avoid aprepitant, clarithromycin, cobicistat, dexamethasone, mifepristone, tretinoin, warfarin, or St. John’s wort with Micronor. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Birth control should not be used during pregnancy. Norethindrone passes into breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Use Micronor precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Take one tablet of Norethindrone daily at the same time every day, with or without food. Micronor comes in a 28-day pack. Use a tablet daily for 28 days and start a new pack the next day. Your period should occur during the last 7 days of using the pill pack. Continue taking the drug even if you have some menstrual bleeding. If you miss a dose or are late by 3 hours or more, there is an increased risk of pregnancy. You may be pregnant if you miss your period for two months in a row. Micronor is for birth control. It does not prevent transmission of STDs like HIV. Use a condom to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Avoid smoking. It can increase your risk of blood clots or stroke while taking Norethindrone for contraception. Store Micronor at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
