Micatin (Miconazole nitrate) is an over-the-counter medication used to treat fungal or yeast skin infections like athlete’s foot, ringworm, candidiasis, and jock itch. The medicine also treats tinea versicolor, a fungal infection that causes the lightening or darkening of the skin of the legs, arms, chest, or neck. Fungal skin infections can look red, swollen, or bumpy. Without treatment, the infection may spread and cause further irritation. The active ingredient in Micatin is Miconazole nitrate. Miconazole nitrate belongs to a class of medicines called azole antifungals. It works by preventing the growth of fungus and yeast, causing the infection.
