Maxidex (Dexamethasone) is used to treat eye inflammation caused by allergies, shingles (herpes zoster), severe acne, iritis, uveitis, eye injury, radiation, chemical burns, or certain other conditions. It may also be used after eye surgery to reduce swelling and irritation. Maxidex may also be used for other purposes not listed above. Maxidex belongs to a class of medications called corticosteroids, and works by interfering with the body's normal immune response, and blocking the release of substances that cause inflammation in the body. Take this medication exactly as prescribed. Do not use it in larger or smaller amounts, or for longer than recommended. Do not stop taking this medication before your doctor instructs you to, even if your symptoms improve, as your condition may not be fully treated.
