Marplan (Isocarboxazid) is a prescription medication used to treat depression. Marplan belongs to a class of drugs known as antidepressants. It works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain. This medication can help improve your mood and feelings of well-being. Marplan may be used alone or in combination with other medications.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to Marplan. The common side effects may include constipation, dizziness or drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, nausea, trouble sleeping, and tremors.
Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects:
• Cold sweat, rapid heart rate;
• Chest pain, uneven heart rate;
• Feeling light-headed, like you will faint;
• Jaundice;
• Nausea, vomiting;
• Sensitivity to light or vision problems;
• Sudden and severe headache, stiff neck

Prior to taking this drug, tell your doctor if you are allergic to Isocarboxazid, or if you have a history of severe or frequent headaches or a history of stroke or blood clots, heart disease or high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, and pheochromocytoma.. Also inform your doctor of your medical history, especially if you have taken any other antidepressant medication within the past five weeks, or if you have diabetes, epilepsy or seizure disorder, heart disease or high blood pressure, schizophrenia, and a thyroid disorder. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Marplan and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid coffee, tea, cola, energy drinks, or other products that have caffeine. Do not drink alcohol or eat foods that are high in tyramine while taking this medication. Marplan should not be used by anyone younger than 16 years of age.
