Lotrel (Amlodipine/Benazepril) is a combination prescription used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Amlodipine belongs to the class of drugs called a calcium channel blocker and Benazepril belongs to the class of drugs known as an ACE inhibitor. This medication works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. You can help prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems by lowering high blood pressure. Lotrel is taken with or without food usually once daily or as directed by the doctor.

The common side effects of Lotrel may include dizziness or light-headedness, dry cough or swelling hands ankles or feet.

Inform your doctor right away if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:

• Fainting;
• Fast, irregular or pounding heartbeat;
• Signs of kidney problems;
• Symptoms of a high potassium blood level such muscle weakness

Lotrel is not recommended for use during pregnancy as it may harm an unborn baby. This medication passes into breast milk.
