Lopressor SR is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Lopressor SR (Metoprolol Tartrate) is used to affect the blood flow through arteries and veins in order to treat angina and hypertension. It’s also used to lower the risk of death or hospitalization for heart failure. It works by blocking certain chemicals in the body, such as epinephrine. The usual recommended start dose is 100 mg.

Less serious side effects of Metoprolol Tartrate may include dizziness, tiredness, depression, confusion, memory problems, nightmares, insomnia, diarrhea, mild itching or rash.

It is not known how this medication will harm an unborn baby. The benefit of treating high blood pressure may outweigh any risks to the baby, so talk to your doctor. Lopressor SR can pass into breastmilk and cause dry skin, dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation, or slow heartbeats in your baby. There may be an interaction between Lopressor SR and other medications such as other heart or blood pressure medications, epinephrine, antidepressants, ergot medicines, MAO inhibitors, etc. If you are taking any of these medications, speak to your doctor.
