Lipidil (Fenofibrate) belongs to a class of medications known as fibrates. It is used, in addition to a proper diet, to treat certain types of high cholesterol. Lipidil reduces LDL (low density lipoproteins) and VLDL (very low density lipoproteins), which are both types of bad cholesterol, and also reduces triglycerides in your blood. It also increases HDL (high density lipoproteins), which is a type of good cholesterol. Bringing cholesterol levels in the blood into the desired range has been shown to reduce the risks associated with heart disease and atherosclerosis (clogged arteries). In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help Lipidil work better include exercise, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking.

Manufacturer Information

Canadian Pharmacy King currently offers the brand Lipidil EZ tablets from Canada by BGP Pharma in the strength of 145 mg. Canadian Pharmacy King also offers the generic Fenofibrate from Canada by Apotex in the dosage of 67 mg and 200 mg micro capsules.

The common side effects of Lipidil include constipation, gas, or diarrhea, dizziness, headache, or fatigue, nausea or vomiting, stomach pain, red, itchy skin, runny nose, or sneezing. Contact your doctor if you notice more serious side effects such as:

• Chest pain, sudden cough, wheezing, rapid breathing, coughing up blood;
• Fever, chills, weakness, sore throat, mouth sores, unusual bleeding or bruising;
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• Loss of appetite, stomach pain just after eating a meal;
• Sharp stomach pain spreading to your back or shoulder blade;
• Swelling, warmth, or redness in an arm or leg

If you notice any serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.

You should not use Lipidil if you are allergic to fenofibrate, if you are breastfeeding, or if you have severe kidney, liver, or gallbladder disease. To make sure this medication is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or gallbladder problems, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. It is unknown whether or not this medication will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Lipidil can cause the breakdown of muscle tissue, which can lead to kidney failure. This happens more often in women, older adults, or people who have kidney disease, diabetes, or hypothyroidism. Talk to your doctor about your individual risk. Always tell your doctor about any medications you are taking, specifically cholestyramine, Colesevelam, colchicine, and colestipol. As well, tell your doctor if you are taking other cholesterol lowering medications, a blood thinner (such as warfarin, coumadin, or jantoven), or drugs that weaken the immune system (such as cancer medication, steroids, and medication to prevent organ transplant rejection). Lipidil is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. Avoid eating foods high in fat or cholesterol, or fenofibrate will not be as effective. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can raise triglyceride levels and may increase your risk of liver damage.
