Liberte UT 380 (Intrauterine copper device) is a prescription medication used to prevent pregnancy without interrupting sex. You don’t have to take a pill every day or use condoms when using the intrauterine device (IUD). Liberte UT 380 offers excellent contraceptive efficacy at a low cost. The active ingredient in Liberte is Copper. A Copper IUD is a non-hormonal contraception. It works by releasing copper ions which work directly against sperm and egg to prevent the fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus. Liberte UT 380 will last years and is excellent for women who cannot take hormones. This IUD also provides emergency contraception if inserted within 7 days after unprotected sex.

Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Copper IUDs do not harm nursing babies. Your doctor can insert the IUD anytime as long as you are not pregnant. It is best to get the placement during or just after your period. Liberte IUD is a non-hormonal contraception. It does not prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. If you have more than one sexual partner, there is an increased risk of developing an infection after the IUD placement. Your doctor will prescribe antibiotics to prevent infections. Your doctor will check the size and position of your uterus before inserting Liberte IUD. You will receive a local anesthetic before the insertion. You may experience a pinching feeling or cramps for a few minutes after the IUD is inserted. Take ibuprofen an hour before the placement to reduce cramping. Liberte short format IUD will last for 5 years. Your doctor will need to take it out once it expires. Use other methods of contraception for 7 days before removal. You can have the IUD removed before expiration if you want to get pregnant. The IUD may make your periods heavier and longer by about 20-50%. Consult your doctor if you experience heavy and painful periods. It is important but not mandatory to check the string of the IUD. You must insert a finger into your vagina and feel around for the cervix first and then the strings. If the string is shorter or longer than it used to be or you don’t feel it at all, contact your doctor. Use another form of birth control until your IUD is checked.
