Lariam (Mefloquine) is a prescription medication used to treat malaria and symptoms of malaria infections. The drug is also used as a prophylaxis against malaria. The active ingredient in Lariam is Mefloquine. Mefloquine belongs to a class of drugs called antimalarials. It works by killing malaria parasites during their developmental stage in the red blood cells and liver. Lariam can be used alone or with other medication.

Do not breastfeed during the treatment. Lariam may cause dizziness. Do not drive, use machinery, or perform activities that require alertness and coordination. Use Lariam exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible, except if it is almost time for your next dose. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Lariam and other medicines, including halofantrine, antihistamines, other antimalarial, ketoconazole, antibiotics, and tramadol. Keep Mefloquine out of sight and reach of children. Do not use this medication after the expiry date. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not store Mefloquine above 300C (860F).
