Kerendia (Finerenone) is a prescription medication used to treat people with chronic kidney disease resulting from type 2 diabetes. This drug reduces the risk of kidney failure and dialysis, and slows down kidney damage. Kerendia also reduces the risk of heart attack, heart failure and sudden cardiovascular death. Kerendia may be used alone or with other medicines. The active ingredient in Kerendia is Finerenone. Finerenone belongs to the class of medications called mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists or aldosterone antagonists. It works by blocking aldosterone in certain areas of the kidneys, heart, and blood vessels which then lowers sodium and water retention in the body.
