Hytrin (Terazosin) belongs to a class of drugs called Alpha Blockers, Antihypertensives; BPH. Hytrin is a prescription medication used to treat symptoms of enlarged prostate (benign prostate hyperplasia) and high blood pressure (hypertension). This medication works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow easily, which lowers blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. For enlarged prostates, this medication does not shrink the prostate, but it works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the area around the bladder, making it easier to urinate. It also helps relieve the symptoms of BPH such as difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, weak stream, and the need to urinate frequently. This medication is taken orally with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily.
