Humatin (Paromomycin Sulfate) is a prescription medication used to treat a certain parasite infection of the intestines known as amebiasis. This medication may also be used along with a special diet to treat a serious brain problem known as hepatic encephalopathy. This drug belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglycoside antibiotics. It works by helping to treat hepatic encephalopathy by stopping the growth of parasites in your intestines that make ammonia. This antibiotic only treats parasitic and bacterial infections.

We currently offer the brand Humatin from Canada by Erfa in the strength of 250 mg capsules. The generic version is not available.
Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Humatin may include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, heartburn, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting.
Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of these rare but serious side effects:
• Dizziness;
• Headaches;
• Hearing loss;
• Muscle weakness;
• Numb/tingling skin;
• Ringing sounds in the ears;
• Seizures

You should not take Humatin capsules if you are allergic to Paromomycin or to other aminoglycoside antibiotics or if you have any other allergies. Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you have ever had intestinal problems. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Humatin and other medications. Inform your doctor that you are using Paromomycin before having any immunizations or vaccinations. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
