Gas-X (Simethicone) is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve symptoms of gas and bloating. You may experience gas or bloating if your digestive system can’t break down or absorb certain foods such as lactose or gluten. The active ingredient in Gas-X is Simethicone. Simethicone belongs to a class of drugs called gas relief agents. It works by breaking up the gas bubbles in your digestive tract to relieve fullness, pressure, and gas.

We currently offer the brand Gas-X from Canada manufactured by Glaxo in the strength of 80 mg peppermint chewtab, 125 mg extra strength cherry, and 125 mg extra strength peppermint. The generic Simethicone is not available.
Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Gas-X. The most common side effects of Gas-X may include the following:

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat
These are not all of the side effects of Gas-X. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not use Gas-X if you are allergic to Simethicone or any ingredient in Gas-X. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant;
• Have a condition that requires limiting sugar or aspartame intake;
• Have diabetes;
• Have phenylketonuria
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Gas-X and other medicines, like liotrix, levothyroxine, etc. If you take thyroid medications, take them at least 4 hours before or after using Simethicone. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if Gas-X will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Simethicone does not pass into breast milk and is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Gas-X is a chewable tablet. Take this drug by mouth, usually as needed after meals and at bedtime. Chew the chewable tablet well and swallow. You may need to follow a special diet or increase your exercise when using Gas-X. Learn about the foods to eat or avoid to help control your condition. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
