Fleet enema (Enemol) is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve occasional constipation. Constipation occurs when bowel movements become less frequent, and stools become more difficult to pass. Without treatment, constipation can lead to complications like hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and rectal prolapse. Fleet enema is also used to cleanse the bowels in preparation for procedures like colonoscopy or endoscopy. The active ingredient in Fleet enema is Sodium phosphate. Sodium phosphate belongs to a class of drugs called saline laxatives. It works by drawing and retaining water in the colon to produce a bowel movement rapidly. You should experience a bowel movement within 2 to 5 minutes after administering the enema rectally.
