Flamazine (Silver Sulphadiazine) is a prescription medication used to prevent infections and remove burnt dead tissue after severe burns. It helps to decrease the risk of bacteria spreading to surrounding skin, or to the blood where it can cause a serious blood infection. Silver sulfadiazine belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfa antibiotics. This medication works by killing bacteria and stopping the growth its growth.

We currently have the brand Flamazine cream from Canada manufactured by Cardinal Health. The generic Silver Sulphadiazine cream comes from India also called Silver Suph cream and Burn Cool by different manufacturers.
Many people who use this medication do not have any serious side effects. The common side effects of Flamazine cream may include burning, pain or itching of the treated skin.
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the rare but serious side effects such as:
• Easy bruising or bleeding;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Signs of anemia;
• Signs of an infection;
• Signs of kidney or liver problems

Do not use Flamazine if you are allergic to Silver Sulfadiazine or if to other sulfa antibiotics. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you have a G6PD or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, kidney or liver problems, or low white blood cell count. You should also tell your doctor about all the medications you use including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Silver Sulfadiazine and other medications. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Flamazine should not be used on babies under two months old.
