Famotidine is used to treat ulcers of the stomach and intestines, and to prevent intestinal ulcers from coming back after they have healed. This medication is also used to treat certain stomach and throat problems such as erosive esophagitis, GERD and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Famotidine belongs to a class of medications known as H2 blockers. It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. This medication relieves symptoms such as cough, heartburn, stomach pain, and difficulty swallowing.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Famotidine may include headaches, constipation, or diarrhea.
Stop taking this medication and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects:
• A seizure;
• Confusion, agitation, hallucinations;
• Lack of energy;
• Sudden dizziness, fast or pounding heartbeats;
• Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness

Do not use other stomach acid reducers while you are using Famotidine tablets. Avoid drinking alcohol; it can increase the risk of damage to your stomach. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or before breastfeeding.
