Ella (Ulipristal Acetate) is a prescription emergency contraceptive that is used to prevent pregnancy after birth control fails due to a broken condom or unprotected sex. Ulipristal Acetate belongs to the class of drugs called progesterone receptor modulators. This medication works by preventing the release of an egg during a menstrual cycle. It thickens the vaginal fluid to help prevent the sperm from fertilizing an egg and changes the lining of the uterus to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg.
