Ebixa (Memantine Hydrochloride) is a prescription medication that treats moderately severe to severe Alzheimer's disease (AD). Alzheimer's disease is a general decline in all areas of mental ability and is the most common cause of dementia. The active ingredient in the Ebixa tablet is Memantine Hydrochloride. Memantine Hydrochloride belongs to the class of medication called N-Methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist (NMDA-antagonist). NMDA receptors transmit nerve signals within the brain, e.g., in learning and memory. It works by protecting NMDA receptors in the brain against high levels of glutamate, which could be the cause of brain degeneration. Therefore, Ebixa should improve your thinking capacity and your ability to remember easily. However, it would be best to know that Ebixa treats the symptoms of Alzheimer's and doesn't cure the disease.

We currently offer the brand Ebixa from Canada manufactured by Lundbeck in the strength of 20 mg, 60 mg, 90 mg, 120 mg, 150 mg, and 180 mg tablets. The generic Memantine Hydrochloride comes from Canada from a different manufacturer in the strength of 5 mg and 10 mg tablets.
Get medical help immediately if you have any signs of an allergic reaction while taking Ebixa. The most common side effects of Ebixa may include:
• Constipation;
• Fatigue;
• Feeling sleepy or dizzy;
• Headache;
• Somnolence
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, including:
• Discovered that your eyes are becoming yellowish. This may be suggestive of jaundice;
• Hallucination (seeing, hearing, and smelling things not perceived by others around you);
• Throbbing or cramping pain, swelling, redness, and warmth in your leg or arm
You should not take Ebixa if you are allergic to memantine-containing medications. Ebixa comes as a tablet. The tablets should be taken once a day and at the same time every day. The tablets should be swallowed with some water. You may take the tablet with a meal or on an empty stomach. Your doctor may initially start you on a low dose but increases the dose as you progress in your treatment. Ebixa contains sorbitol, so you inform your doctor if you are fructose intolerant.
Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have had episodes of epilepsy or seizures;
• Have fructose intolerance;
• Have problems with your heartbeat;
• Have lung or breathing problems;
• Have liver problems such as liver cirrhosis
Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Ebixa or its generic Memantine is not recommended for use by pregnant women. You should talk to your doctor before using it. Discuss with your doctor before using it while breastfeeding your baby. Do not give Ebixa to a child or adolescent under 18 years old. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Memantine and other medications, including acetazolamide, procainamide, quinidine aluminum hydroxide, lorazepam, diazepam, phenytoin, tenofovir DF, and vandetanib. Keep the tablet in a cool, dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
