Duolube ointment is an over-the-counter medication used to soothe and comfort dry and irritated eyes. The drug temporarily relieves burning and irritation and protects the eyes against further irritation. Dry eye is a common condition that occurs when the tears cannot provide adequate lubrication for the eyes. Duolube ointment belongs to a class of drugs called ocular lubricant ophthalmic. It works by lubricating the eye surface and keeping it moist.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Duolube ointment. The most common side effects of Duolube ointment may include the following:
• Increased sensitivity to light;
• Itching or redness of eyes;
• Mild burning or irritation of the eye;
• Watery eyes
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Eye pain;
• Severe burning or stinging of the eyes;
• Vision changes

You should not use Duolube ointment if you are allergic to Duolube ointment or any ingredient in Duolube ointment. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:

• Have an eye infection
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Duolube ointment and other medicines, especially other eye medications. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown whether Duolube ointment will harm your unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is not known if Duolube ointment passes into breast milk or if it may affect a nursing infant. Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Duolube is an ointment. Use this drug in your eyes only. Do not take it by mouth. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the ointment. Wash your hands before applying Duolube. Twist off the top of the tube and tilt your head back. Gently pull down your lower eyelid and squeeze a small amount of the medication into the inside of your eyelid. Blink several times to spread the ointment across your eye. If your eye irritation persists 72 hours after using the medicine, discontinue use and consult your doctor. Duolube ointment may temporarily blur your vision. Avoid driving or hazardous activities until you know how this medicine affects you. Store this medication at room temperature. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
