Diltiazem and lidocaine is used in the treatment of anal fissures, promote wound healing, or treat external thrombosed hemorrhoids. Diltiazem belongs to the class of medications called calcium channel blockers and it relaxes the anal sphincter to aid in the healing process. Lidocaine belongs to a class of drugs called local anesthetics and it provides pain relief by numbing the skin. The Diltiazem Lidocaine ointment relaxes the smooth muscle around the rectum and promotes blood flow to help the growth of new skin over the tear in the lining of the rectum. It also reduces anal canal pressure, diminishing pain and spasm.
