Digoxin (Lanoxin) is used for the treatment of heart failure usually along with other medications. It is also used to treat a certain type of irregular heartbeat (chronic atrial fibrillation). Digoxin belongs to a class of medications called cardiac glycosides. It works by affecting sodium and potassium inside heart cells. This reduces strain on the heart and helps it maintain a normal steady and strong heartbeat.

We currently have the brand Digoxin in the 0.0625mg from New Zealand, the 0.25mg comes from Turkey and is manufactured by Novartis. The generic Lanoxin 0.125mg comes from UK and is manufactured by a different manufacturer. Digoxin is available in the strength of 0.0625mg, 0.25mg and 0.125mg tablets.

Common side effects may include diarrhea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting.

Call your doctor at once if you have:
• Blurred or yellowed vision;
• Bloody or black, tarry stools;
• Confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;
• Fast, slow or uneven heart rate

You should not use digoxin if you are allergic Lanoxin or if you have ventricular fibrillation or if you have other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. This drug may make you dizzy or cause blurred vision. You should not drive or do any activity that requires alertness or clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. Digoxin passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
